When you are in the process of teaching yourself everything, you cannot neglect to educate yourself on everything. Yes, I am referring to educating yourself about manners, decorum, and eating right as well as strengthening that muscle betwixt your ears.
Today’s post is a prelude to a challenge I’ve set for myself this fall: live on $4 a day for 16 weeks. That includes food, paper goods, house hold items, toiletries… the only things not included are clothing (I just simply will not buy any during that period), housing (already paid for with scholarships), and gas.
Now why, oh why, do I include this on a blog about teaching yourself everything?
This kind of rigor teaches two things: discipline, which is a subset of your character as a person, and a certain mindfulness of what I put on and in my body. To eat out all the time, is to actually do your body a great disservice. To take care of your body, means that you will then have more energy and mindfulness that you can then apply to teaching yourself everything.
If you would like to follow along, I would suggest either:
- $5 a day challenge popular here in the U.S.A.
- “Living below the line” challenge very popular in the U.K.
These two challenges could be the impetus you need to actually try.
